PM Vishwakarma Scheme: Scheme for Artisans to Help Skill Development Among Youth

During his Independence Day speech on August 15th, he unveiled the PM Viswakarma scheme, aimed at giving a big boost to all those talented folks with traditional skills.
But hold the phone, because the fun didn't stop there! On August 16th, PM Modi's crew, aka the Union Cabinet, gave a thumbs up to the PM Vishwakarma Scheme and handed over a whopping ₹13,000 crore for a mega five-year party from 2023 to 2028.
Think of PM Modi as the ultimate support system for our local artisans and craftsmen. He's like the cool older cousin who slides you some extra pocket money to fuel your passions. This scheme is all about celebrating our roots while embracing the future – a bit like mixing your grandma's secret recipe with some new-age swag.

Aim & Objective: The scheme aims to strengthen and nurture the 'Guru-Shishya parampara' or family-based practice of traditional skills by artisans and craftsmen working with their hands and tools. The scheme also aims at improving the quality, as well as the reach of products and services of artisans and craftsmen and to ensure that Vishwakarmas are integrated with the domestic and global value chains.
The scheme's primary objective is to extend loans on lenient terms to local workers who are instrumental in driving the majority of the rural economy. The scheme will provide support to artisans and craftspeople in rural and urban areas across India. Eighteen traditional trades will be covered in the first instance under PM Vishwakarma.
Beneficiaries: Initially, 18 Traditional trades will be covered. These include Carpenter (Suthar); Boat Maker; Armorer; Blacksmith; Hammer and Tool Kit Maker; Locksmith; Goldsmith; Potter (Kumhaar); Sculptor, Stone Breaker; Cobbler; Mason; Basket/Mat/Broom Maker/Coir Weaver; Doll and Toy Maker (traditional); Barber; Garland Maker; Washerman; Tailor; and fishing net maker.
Key Features of PM Vishwakarma Scheme:
The scheme will have a financial outlay of ₹13,000 crore. In its first instance, as many as 18 rural traders will be covered under this scheme including carpenter, boat maker, blacksmith, locksmith, potter, goldsmith, barber, tailor, mason, garland maker among others.
Artisans and craftspeople will be provided a recognition through PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card.
The scheme has a provision of credit support of up to ₹1 lakh (first tranche) and ₹2 lakh (second tranche) with a concessional interest rate of 5%.
It also has a provision to provide skill up-gradation, incentive for toolkit as well as digital transactions and marketing support.
Skilling programme will take place at both basic and advanced types. Participants will get a stipend of ₹500 per day while undergoing training.
Beneficiaries will also receive up to ₹15,000 to buy modern tools.
