SUKANYA SAMRIDDHI YOJANA (SSY)

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is a small deposit scheme of the Government of India meant exclusively for a girl child and is launched as a part of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Campaign. The scheme is meant to meet the education and marriage expenses of a girl child.   Benefits Under the scheme, a minimum of Rs 1000 and a maximum of Rs 1,50,000 can be deposited. Some of the benefits associated with opening the account under the yojana includes high interest rate, savings on income tax, lock in period, when account reaches the maturity age account balance including the interest rate will be paid to the policy holder and lastly the policy holder receives interest even when the scheme reaches maturity.   Mode of Application One could open the SSA account in any post office or authorised branch of commercial banks. Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme

In 2015, the Indian government introduced the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme to address concerns of gender discrimination and women empowerment in the country. The name Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao translates to ‘Save the girl child, educate the girl child’. The scheme aims to educate citizens against gender bias and improve efficacy of welfare services for girls. It was launched with an initial funding of Rs. 100 crore (US$ 13.5 million).
