PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) Scheme: Empowering Education for a Rising India


The Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved a transformative new centrally sponsored scheme - "PM SHRI Schools" (PM ScHools for Rising India). This innovative scheme aims to strengthen over 14,500 schools across the country, managed by the Central Government, State/UT Governments, and local bodies, by showcasing the components of the National Education Policy 2020 and providing mentorship to other schools in their vicinity. The scheme focuses on delivering high-quality education for the cognitive development of students and nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped with essential 21st-century skills.


Key Features of PM SHRI Schools:

Equitable, Inclusive, and Joyful Learning Environment: PM SHRI Schools foster an equitable and inclusive education system in a joyful environment, catering to diverse backgrounds, multilingual needs, and academic abilities of children, in alignment with NEP 2020.


Green Schools: PM SHRI Schools embrace sustainability by incorporating environment-friendly practices, such as solar panels, LED lights, nutrition gardens with natural farming, waste management, plastic-free initiatives, water conservation, and climate change awareness.


Experiential and Holistic Pedagogy: PM SHRI Schools adopt an experiential and holistic pedagogy, offering play/toy-based learning (especially in foundational years), inquiry-driven, learner-centered, discussion-based, and enjoyable education.


Learning Outcomes and Competency-based Assessment: Focused on real-life application, PM SHRI Schools emphasize conceptual understanding and competency-based assessment for every student.


Skill Development and Industry Linkage: PM SHRI Schools collaborate with Sector Skill Councils and local industries, enhancing employability and providing better job opportunities for students.


School Quality Assessment Framework (SQAF): Regular evaluations through SQAF ensure that PM SHRI Schools maintain the desired standards and outcomes.

PM SHRI Schools encompass various interventions, including learning enhancement programs, holistic progress cards, innovative pedagogies, bagless days, internships with local artisans, early childhood care and education, equity and inclusion provisions, flexible subject choices, technology-based solutions for language barriers, ICT, smart classrooms, digital libraries, and vocational initiatives.


Implementation Strategy:


The implementation of PM SHRI Schools will leverage the existing administrative structures of Samagra Shiksha, KVS, and NVS. Selection of exemplar schools will be through a Challenge Mode, promoting healthy competition and adherence to specific criteria.

To ensure excellence, PM SHRI Schools undergo constant monitoring, tracking student enrollment and learning progress, promoting 21st-century skills, offering sports and arts opportunities, building sustainable and green campuses, and linking with higher education institutions and local entrepreneurial ecosystems for mentorship.


Beneficiaries:


PM SHRI Schools are projected to directly benefit over 18 lakh students and extend their impact to neighboring schools through mentorship and support provided by these exemplar institutions.
